Mattress Encasements
Mattress encasements serve two purposes; to protect your bed and box spring and to contain bed bugs. Used proactively they prevent bed bugs from infesting your mattress or box spring. Used as part of a treatment plan they encase an already infested mattress or box spring and prevent bed bugs from escaping or feeding; they eventually succumb to starvation and perish.
There are several mattress encasements on the market. Most originated as a means to protect your mattress from allergens, dust mites, or spills. As bed bugs have gained notoriety more and more mattress encasement companies are including them in the marketing of their products without having tested to ensure that they in fact work for this purpose. The following are a list of mattress encasement companies for which third party scientific testing has proved that their products are bed bug proof (both escape and bite).

If there is another product out there that meets the criteria of testing described above and it has been omitted from this list it is not intentional; simply submit the data to prove the claims of the product and it will be included.
Bed Bug Monitors – Active
“The Cimex Detection Case (CDC 3000) serves as an early warning system and a follow-up tool to evaluate post-treatment populations. Using our proprietary technology that mimics the presence of a human body, the CDC 3000 emits CO2, heat, and the chemical equivalent body odor to attract even incipient levels of bed bugs.
Discrete, portable, and cost-effective, the CDC 3000 offers you the power of low-level detection before an infestation occurs—and the peace of mind that comes with testing after treatment to ensure total eradication. Detect bed bugs before they populate. Make sure they’re gone for good after treatment.”
“BioSensory developed the NightWatch Bedbug Monitor based on knowledge of a bedbug’s physiology and an understanding of how the pest seeks a blood meal, combined with extensive field and laboratory testing. Because bedbugs bite once every 7 to 10 days, a new infestation of a few bedbugs often goes unnoticed. It is undetectable by the person being bitten and by the most expert professionals in the field. At first, the person thinks the bite is a pimple, then a rash. By the time a skin reaction is recognized as insect bites, the infestation has grown to hundreds of bedbugs and eggs and is expensive to eliminate.”
